Catching Up With Freshman Will Everett

Freshman Will Everett (Accounting/London, England) gives YSUsports.com an update in this Q&A session.

What is your current location?
Back at home in London

Who are you living with at the moment?
My Dad, Sister and Brother

How is your family and home country dealing with the current situation?
My Dad still has to work and because I can't practice, I'm helping him. The country just went into lockdown of all non-essentials so it's a stressful time with the supermarkets empty.

How are you keeping your mind on tennis?
The new facility is helping me keep my mind on tennis but other than that not much is keeping it there if I'm honest because everything is shutdown.

What are you doing to stay in shape (working out, running)?
Our Family company manufactures and I move around a lot in the day. I've also been doing our home workouts we've been sent especially since the weather's been nice for once.

How have you looked at things differently in the past two weeks?
Yes, I realized everything can be taken away so quickly even when you play no part in it, it made me appreciate when we did and now when we will get to play.

What was your reaction when you were told your season was going to end?
It was gut-wrenching. It's hard to give it words because within a day I was booking a flight across the world after looking ahead at our best chance ever at a Conference Title.

What is going to be the toughest thing about not physically going to class?
Dealing with the time zone, and keeping up with deadlines which I already had a problem with.

How has dealing with the current circumstances brought your team together?
We were pretty close already being a small team, but we definitely feel more bonded from something that isn't tennis because we're all going through this together.

What makes you most excited for next year?
All of it. The facility especially I am yearning to play in it after the long wait.

What do you enjoy the most about being at YSU?
Winning. It makes the early mornings worth it and feeling like you are improving all the time.

What part of your game do you want or need to improve upon the most?
My movement, once I get faster I can improve my actual shots.

How often do you FaceTime your teammates? What do you guys talk about?
Only really Mando. I show him round England and he shows me Romania. Other than that we just talk on our group chat really.

Have you learned anything about yourself during this?
Yes, lots. I'm more tolerable with delay without getting frustrated than I thought I'd be. I am being more positive than I thought I'd be.

If you didn't play tennis, what sport would you like to play?
Anything coming from America that I never got a chance to play.

Who is the funniest person on the team?
Just not Joao. He's in his own world and his grandad jokes are horrible. HAHA

Who is the smartest person on the team?
I'd say Joao because he does the hardest major.

Who is the toughest person on the team?
Mando, until he annoys me then I am.
