The Youngstown State men's basketball team outscored WVU Tech 43-23 in the second half en route to an 80-66 win over the Golden Bears on Monday afternoon at the Beeghly Center.
The Penguins improve to 3-0 for the first time since 2013-14 while the Golden Bears fall to 3-4.
Senior Naz Bohannon had his first double-double of the season and the 15th of his career with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Junior Darius Quisenberry scored 21 points with five assists while freshman Shemar Rathan-Mayes scored a career-high 18 points with four 3-pointers.
WVU Tech shot 56.5 percent in the first half with seven 3-pointers and led by as many as eight points in the half and six points, 43-37, at the break.
The Penguins scored 12 of the first 17 points of the second half to take a 49-48 lead after a Quisenberry layup with 14:59 to go. After a Golden Bears basket, the Penguins went on an 11-0 run keyed by five points from Bohannon, four by Quisenberry and capped by a basket by Kenny Ganley, Jr.
YSU built its lead to 15 on baskets by Cheick Traore and Quisenberry and led by as many as 17, 73-56 and 75-58.
Youngstown State opens Horizon League play with two games at Northern Kentucky on Dec. 19-20. Tipoff on Saturday is at 2 p.m. while Sunday's start time is at 3 p.m.
