The Youngstown State men's tennis team picked up a 7-0 win over Saint Francis on Friday night at the Avalon Athletic Club of Boardman. The victory was YSU's third straight to start the season.
YSU won the three doubles matches and all singles contests against the Red Flash. Only one of the six matches went three sets and was highlighted by a come-from-behind win at No. 5 by Will Everett.
Vasilis Vardakis and cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Derek Roehner at No. 1. At No. 2, Laurentiu Mandocescu earned his first colleigate dual win beating Sebastian Pinos, 7-5, 6-1. Joao Garretto earned a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 3 over Daniel Vinces. At No. 4, Erik Gran earned a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Jordi Garcia. Pol Virgili Blanco picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win over Samuel Ghigiarelli at No. 6. Everett dropped his first set, 6-3, before rallying to win the second set, 7-6 (4). In the third, he trailed 7-3 before winning the final seven points of the set to win the match.
The Penguins return to action on Sunday when they play host to Butler. First serve is set for Noon.
