Vestal, N.Y. - The Youngstown State men's tennis team picked up a 4-3 victory over Binghamton on Sunday afternoon to improve to 2-0 on the season.
The Penguins won the doubles point before losing three of the first four completed singles matches. YSU earned wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles to rally for the win.
In doubles, Joao Garretto and Larentiu Mandocescu earned a 6-3 victory at No. 1 while Vasilis Vardakis and Will Everett won 6-4 at No. 2 and Erik Gran and Pol Virgili Blanco picked up a 6-3 victory at No. 3.
The Bearcats (1-3) picked up wins at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 singles. Vardakis earned hard-fought 7-6, 7-6 win over Kushaan Nath. At No. 5, Everett knocked off Dan Pergel, 6-3, 6-4 to tie the match at 3-3. At No. 6, Pol Virgili Blanco cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Sebastian Quiros to clinch the come-from-behind win.
YSU is back in action on Friday when it plays host to Saint Francis at the Avalon Athletic Club.
