Olean, N.Y. - The Youngstown State men's tennis team defeated St. Bonaventure 5-2 on Saturday afternoon at the St. Bonaventure Tennis Center.
YSU won the doubles point claiming all three wins before taking four of the six singles matches from the Bonnies.
At No. 1, Vasilis Vardakis picked up a 7-5, 6-4 victory against Lukas Linden Malmberg. At No. 3, Joao Garretto won 6-3, 7-6 over Marco Rivolo. Erik Gran earned a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles over John Rutkowski. In his spring debut, Will Everett earned a 6-3, 7-5 triumph over Jonni Heikkila at No. 5 singles.
The Penguins dropped the other two singles matches in three sets. At No. 2. Laurentiu Mandocescu lost a 1-6, 6-4, 1-6 decision to Martin Estevarena and at No. 6, Pol Virgili Blanco dropped a 6-3, 3-6, 14-12 decision to Joseph Blakeley.
In doubles, Mandocescu and Garretto won a tough 7-6 contest at No. 1 while Gran and Blanco cruised to a 6-0 win at No. 3.
YSU is back in action on Sunday morning when it takes on Binghamton. First serve is set for 9:30 a.m.
