Youngstown, Ohio - A pair of second half goals weren't enough to overcome an early defecit as the Youngstown State women's soccer team fell to Kent State 4-2, on Sunday afternoon at Farmers National Bank Field in the Covelli Sports Complex.

Abriana Rondin scored her first collegiate goal when she followed up a rebound shot into the back of the net in the 71st minute. Less than nine minutes later, Lily Welch also scored her first collegiate goal off passes from Kendra Pampus and Bethany Rasile. Pampus dished the corner kick to Rasile who swung a cross to the back post where Welch was able to head into the goal.

Kent State improved to 2-4-1 while the Penguins dropped to 2-7-1.

The Golden Flashes took an early 1-0 lead when Cameron Shedenhelm fired a strike into the back of the net in the 12th minute. Kent State extended their lead to 2-0 at the 24:40 mark when Grace Wolber scored off a rebound.

In the first half, Kent State out shot the Penguins 16-3 while both teams had a corner kick opportunity. Zeeyana Jivraj finished the half with four saves while Sammy Salatino, Sydney Ossege and Lauren Dolak each recorded a shot.

Kent State extend their lead to 4-0 early in the second half when Shedenhelm scored her second goal of the match followed up by a penalty kick conversion from Maddie Holmes.

The Penguins got on the scoreboard at the 70:01 mark on a goal from Rondin to make the score 4-1. Eight and half minutes later, YSU made the score 4-2 on goal from Welch.

For the game, the Golden Flashes out shot the Penguins 30-9 and had more corner kick opportunities, 6-2. Jivraj finished the contest with five saves while eight different Penguins recorded a shot.

The Penguins continue Horizon League play on Saturday, September 28 when they host IUPUI at 1 p.m. from Farmers National Bank Field.
