LaVigna's Early Goal Leads Penguins Past Titans on Senior Day

Youngstown, Ohio - Regan LaVigna's goal just three minutes into the game proved to be all the Penguins needed as they took down Detroit Mercy 1-0 on Senior Day at Farmers National Bank Field in the Covelli Sports Complex.
The Penguins defeat the Titans for just the second time in program history and the first time since 2015 to improve to 4-12-1 overall and 2-6 in the Horizon League. Detroit Mercy drops to 2-12-1 and 0-7-1 in the league.
With the Penguins on the attack early Marcella Sizer played a ball to Abriana Rondin who dished a pass to LaVigna in the box before she fired a rocket past the goalkeeper to give the Penguins the lead just a little over two minutes into the contest. LaVigna's goal was the first of her collegiate goal while Sizer picked up her fourth assist and Rondin her first of the season.
Detroit Mercy had a chance to score the equalizer in the 30th minute when a shot from Olivia Parra was saved at the back post by senior Larsen Murvin.
During the second half, the Titans applied a majority of the offense pressure but were unable to net the equalizer. Their best chance came in the 75th minute when a wide open Hailey Wentzloff ripped a shot over the cross bar.
For the game, the Titans out shot the Penguins 17-7 and had more corner kick opportunities, 3-1. Kate McEachern finished the match with a pair of saves.
The Penguins close out the regular season on Friday, November 1 when they travel to Horizon League leading Milwaukee. The Guins and Panthers will kickoff at 8 p.m. from Engelmann Stadium.
