Box Score Youngstown, Ohio -- Sophomore Ernestina Abambila scored a pair of goals and assisted on another to lead the Youngstown State women's soccer team to a 3-1 win over Longwood on Sunday afternoon at Farmers National Bank Field.
With the win, the Penguins improve to 2-2-1 overall and Longwood falls to 1-4.
Abambila, who leads the team with four goals and four assists, has now scored a goal three of the last four matches. Sophie McFarland posted a pair of assists and Madison Hughes scored her first goal of the season.
Longwood's Christina Corbin scored the game's first goal in the 17th minute when she tapped a shot into the net after a rebound off YSU goalkeeper Katie Montgomery.
One minute later, Kathy Baquero crossed a pass to Abambila, who showed off some nifty footwork, and beat the Longwood goalkeeper in the upper left corner.
Late in the second half, McFarland won a loose ball at the Longwood 18 and centered to Abambila, who beat the goalie in the lower right corner, to give the Penguins a 2-1 lead in the 77th minute.
Hughes scored her first goal of the season in the 85th minute to seal the game and give YSU a 3-1 lead. Again, McFarland found Abambila in the center of the box who in turn tapped a pass to Hughes for the easy score.
Senior goalkeeper Katie Montgomery posted her second win with six saves.
The Penguins visit St. Bonaventure, Friday, Sept. 9, at 7 p.m.
