The Penguins fall to 2-8-1 overall and 0-3 in the Horizon League while the Titans improve to 6-5-1 overall and 2-0-1 in the league.
The Titans scored early and often recording three goals in the first 28 minutes of the match.
Detroit went up 4-0 less than a minute into the second half on Carly Rice's second goal of the year.
In the 79th minute, Detroit's Anna Mindling put the Titans up 5-0.
Junior Marissa Martin scored her second goal of the season with just 12 seconds remaining to avoid the shutout.
The Penguins return home to host Wright State, Sunday, Oct. 2, at 3 p.m. at Farmers National Bank Field.
