Box Score Youngstown -- A pair of late second-half goals led Cleveland State to a 2-1 victory over the Youngstown State women's soccer team on Wednesday night at Farmers National Bank Field.
With the loss, the Penguins fall to 3-11-1 overall and 1-6 in the Horizon League while Cleveland State improves to 5-10 overall and 2-5 in the league.
Junior Marissa Martin gave the Penguins a 1-0 lead in the 61st minute with her sixth goal of the year. Martin hit sophomore Alison Green with a pass in the top right corner of the box, and Green returned the ball in a nifty give-and-go. Martin hit a one-timer from 20 yards out into the lower-left corner of the goal.
Martin has scored four straight goals for the Penguins and has five goals scored in Horizon League play.
Cleveland State's Ashley Thiss and McKenna Vento each scored goal eight minutes apart in the 72nd minute and the 80th minute to escape with the win.
Senior goalkeeper Katie Montgomery recorded six saves in the loss.
The Penguins play their final home game of the season when they host Milwaukee, Saturday, Oct. 22, at 3 p.m.
