Youngstown -- Sophomore Cameron Morse scored a team-high 18 points and sophomore Francisco Santiago added 17 points with eight rebounds, but the Youngstown State men's basketball team dropped an 81-65 decision to Milwaukee on Thursday evening at the Beeghly Center.
Morse connected on 7-of-14 from the field while Santiago was 6-of-9 and made all three of his 3-point attempts.
The Penguins fall to 6-10 overall and 1-2 in the Horizon League while the Panthers improve to 11-5 overall and 2-1 in the league.
Leading Milwaukee was Akeem Springs with 33 points on 14-of-18 shooting and Austin Arians with 14 points with four 3-pointers. JayQuan McCloud added 13 points for the Panthers, who made 13 3-pointers.
The Penguins scored the first five points of the game before the Panthers used s 14-3 run to take a 14-8 lead with 13:10 to go in the first half.
McCloud hit a 3-pointer to extend the Panthers' lead to 19-11 before a jumper by Morse, a free throw by Sidney Umude and a jumper by Matt Donlan got the Penguins within three, 19-16, with 9:02 remaining.
Over the next five minutes, Milwaukee went on a 20-2 run to take a 21-point lead, 39-18 with four minutes left before halftime.
The Penguins closed the gap to 13, 41-28, on a Santiago 3-pointer with 1:15 left, but Milwaukee scored the next four points to take a 45-28 lead into the lockerroom.
Milwaukee led by as many as 27, 67-40, midway through the second half and the Penguins cut the deficit to 13, 74-61, after pair of free throws by Latin Davis with 1:14 left.
The Penguins shot 52 percent from the floor in the second half compared to 33.3 percent in the first half.
