Women's Soccer Holds Off Longwood,1-0, For Second Straight Win

Farmville, Va. -- Freshman Madison Hughes scored her first career goal and goalkeeper Katie Montgomery posted her second straight shutout as the Youngstown State women's soccer team defeated Longwood, 1-0, on Sunday evening.
With the win, the Penguins improve to 2-0 for the first time since 2012. It also marks the first time in school history Youngstown State has opened a season with back-to-back shutouts.
After a scoreless first half,sophomore Katie Hackos found Hughes open and the freshman knotched her the first goal of her college career at the 61:19 mark.
The Penguins also outshot the Lancers, 8-5, in the second half after tallying just two in the first half. Junior Shannon Leghart and sophomores Courtney Lavin and Kyler Lum each posted two shots to lead the Penguins.
Montgomery faced 11 total shots and had one save.
The Penguins visit Army, Friday, Aug. 28, at 7 p.m.
