Box Score

Carbondale, Ill. - The Youngstown State football team led Southern Illinois by 11 points with just over five minutes left in regulation, but the Salukis rallied to force overtime. In the extra session, SIU scored and its defense stopped YSU for a 38-31 win at Saluki Stadium on Saturday night.

YSU (3-4 overall and 1-3 in the MVFC) led 31-20 following a Zak Kennedy field goal with 5:35 left in the fourth quarter. However, the Salukis (3-4, 1-3) scored a touchdown 25 seconds later and tied the contest on a short field goal with just six seconds remaining.

The SIU defense forced a YSU three-and-out and partially blocked a Nick Sheely punt to get the ball back at the Penguins' 47 with 3:17 left.

YSU had a chance to stop SIU on fourth-and-2 from the 39, but a six-yard completion kept the drive alive. YSU was able to keep the Salukis out of the end zone and with six seconds left, Austin Johnson kicked a 19-yard field goal to send the game to overtime.
