The Youngstown State volleyball team dropped its first match of the season in five sets to Duquesne on Saturday evening to conclude a busy weekend. The set scores were 25-22, 19-25, 25-19, 13-25, 10-15.

The Penguins, who began Saturday with a four-set win over Indiana State, are now 6-1 on the season. They defeated Indiana State earlier Saturday and beat UMass Lowell and Robert Morris on Friday as part of the Duquesne/Robert Morris Invitational.

"We just ran out of gas against a team that was bigger and more physical than us," YSU head coach Mark Hardaway said. "In the fourth set they really picked up their intensity and dug everything. We just couldn't keep up."

Senior middle blocker Shannon Watson had 14 kills and a match-high 10 blocks, and Lexi Egler registered her third straight double-double with 13 kills and 17 digs. Val Jeffery had 42 assists and 11 digs to earn all-tournament team honors with Watson.

Duquesne's Arielle Love had 20 kills and was named the tournament's most outstanding player.

Youngstown State will play at Saint Francis U on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
