Women's Soccer Knocks Off Western Illinois in Exhibition, 3-0

Valparaiso, Ind. -- The Youngstown State women's soccer team fought through cold, rainy and muddy conditions to topple Western Illinois, 3-0, on Tuesday afternoon in its lone exhibition game at Eastgate Field.
Junior midfielder Katie Hohmann scored twice and had an assist and junior defender Macey Riese added a goal.
The Penguins jumped out to a 1-0 lead after a cross by junior midfielder Cara Armstrong was dropped by the WIU goalkeeper and Hohmann scored on the rebound.
Riese gave the Penguins a 2-0 advantage when her header from a Hohmann cornerkick found the back of the net.
Hohmann finished the scoring on a penalty kick to secure the 3-0 victory.
The Penguins open the 2014 regular season against New Hampshire, Friday, Aug. 22, at 1:30 p.m. at the TD Bank Classic, hosted by the University of Vermont.
