Women's Soccer

No. 5 Women's Soccer Visits No. 4 Green Bay in HL Quarterfinals

The fifth-seeded Youngstown State women's soccer team takes on the fourth-seeded Green Bay Phoenix in the quarterfinals of the 2014 Horizon League Championship, Monday, Nov. 3. Kickoff is slated for 8 p.m. EDT at Santaga Stadium in Green Bay, Wis.

Podolsky Named Capital One Academic All-District
Youngstown State women's soccer senior Jackie Podolsky (Canfield, Ohio) has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District V First-Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced.

Podolsky, who carries a 4.00 grade-point average in accounting, is the third Youngstown State women's soccer player to earn academic all-district honors and just the second to be named to the first-team.

Podolsky is now eligible to be nominated for the Academic All-America teams.

Last Time Out
The Penguins dropped a 1-0 decision to UIC on Oct. 31. Sophomore Katie Montgomery had seven saves.

Last Time Against Green Bay
The Penguins dropped a 2-0 decision to Green Bay on Oct. 25 in Green Bay, Wis.

The Green Bay Series
This is the 17th meeting between Youngstown State and Green Bay in a series that dates back to 1998. Green Bay owns a 11-3-2 edge in the all-time series, but the Penguins are 2-2-1 in the last five meetings, including a 1-0 win last season at Farmers National Bank Field.

With a Win
With the win, the Penguins will tie the school mark for most wins in a season with eight and advance to the semifinals of the Horizon League Championship. The last time YSU won eight matches was in 2012.

Tenis Shot
Senior Brittany Tenis made the most of her senior night in the Penguins 2-1 win over Cleveland State on Oct. 22. Tenis, who had scored her first career goal earlier in the year, led the Penguins to the win with a pair of goals, including the game-winner with 2:29 left in the match. Tenis became the first YSU player to score two goals in a match since Rachel Morrison in 2012.

Scoring Uprise
The Penguins have posted 22 goals this season that have been scored by 11 different players. The Penguins also have 19 assists by 11 different players for a total of 63 points. That point total is the fourth highest in school history while the 19 assists also rank fourth on the single-season chart. YSU's 22 goals scored ranks fifth on the single-season list.

Pitching Shutouts
The Penguins' 1-0 win over Oakland on Oct. 4 marked the fourth time this season they have help an opponent scoreless. Goalkeepers Jackie Podolsky and Katie Montgomery each have a shutout and each have two combined shutouts. The four shutouts this season ranked tied for the second most in school history. The Penguins had four in both 2012 and 2011. The school record for shutouts is six in 2008.

Podolsky Sets Win Mark
With the 1-0 win over Oakland on Oct. 4, senior Jackie Podolsky became Youngstown State's all-time wins leader with 13, and now has 14 after the 2-1 win over Cleveland State on Oct. 22. She broke the record of 12 set by Christine Handte from 1998-2001.

Podolsky in the Book
Senior goalkeeper Jackie Podolsky is also inching her way up in the YSU record book. Podolsky is Youngstown State's career leader with a 1.30 goals-against average and ranks eighth with 176 career saves.

Haney Second in HL
With five assists, senior Chelsey Haney is tied for second in the Horizon League . She also ranks tied for 10th in league with 11 total points. In the YSU annals, Haney ranks fourth with 32 total points, tied for seventh with 11 goals, and third with 10 assists.

Hohmann Now Second
With her assist on Kathy Baquero's goal against Oakland on Oct. 4, junior Katie Hohmann moved into sole possession of second place on the YSU career assists chart with 11. She also moved into a tie for 10th place on the career points list with 21. Hohmann has five career goals to go along with her 11 assists.
