Valparaiso Forces Winner-Take-All Game With 2-1 Victory

Chicago, Ill. – A two-run home run by Valparaiso's Joylynn Ichiyama in the top of the first inning off Casey Crozier was all the offense the Crusaders needed in a 2-1 win over the Youngstown State softball team and forced a winner-take-all final at Flames Field at UIC.
Crozier, who scattered seven hits, held the Crusaders scoreless the rest of the way and had five strikeouts.
Valparaiso's Taylor Weissenhofer pitched a four-hitter with four strikeouts to pick up her 19th win of the season.
Junior Samantha Snodgrass, who had two hits, belted a two-out solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to cut the deficit to 2-1, but the Penguins left the tying run stranded in the bottom of the seventh.
The Penguins and Crusaders play again at 2:30 p.m.
