- The No. 6 Youngstown State softball team (19-25) takes on No. 3 Valparaiso in the 2013 Horizon League Championship, Saturday, May 11, at Noon (EDT)/11 a.m. (CDT).
- Youngstown State and the Crusaders met in the first round on Wednesday with the Penguins coming away with a 9-1 victory in five innings.
- The Penguins and Crusaders have met four times in the last seven days and each team has won twice. The Penguins have won the last two meetings.
- The Penguins advanced to the championship game after knocking off No. 5 Wright State, 1-0, in the winner's bracket final on Friday. Junior Casey Crozier tossed a three-hit shutout with four strikeouts.
- A bases-loaded walk to senior Caroline Krombach plated senior Sarah Gabel with the game's only run.
- The Penguins also knocked off No. 2 seed Loyola, 2-0, on Thursday.
- This is the Penguins second time in the Horizon League Championship game and the first time since 2006. The Penguins hosted the 2006 tournament and won the title winning four straight games.
