Box Score Dayton, Ohio -- The Youngstown State baseball
team scored six runs in the first inning and got seven solid
innings from senior left-hander Blake Aquadro in a
10-1 victory at Wright State on Thursday evening at Nischwitz
Stadium.
Neil Schroth
and Nick
DiNello both homered during that six-run first, and Mike Accardi had three
hits from the leadoff spot. Aquadro allowed one run on six hits in
seven innings to earn his second win of the season.
Accardi started the game with a double, and Schroth followed
with his first career home run. Drew Dosch struck out but
reached on a passed ball, and that helped lead to the remaining
four runs in the inning. Kris Moules singled in
Marcus Heath
with one out to make the score 3-0, and Phil Lipari flew out for
what should have been the third out of the inning. DiNello, though,
took advantage of the opportunity and hit a three-run homer to left
for his first career round-tripper.
Wright State stranded the bases loaded in the third and left two
runners on in both the fourth and fifth innings as Aquadro kept the
Penguins up by six. YSU then added three runs in the seventh as Josh White drew a
bases loaded walk, Accardi singled in a run and Schroth had a
sacrifice fly.
The Raiders got their lone run in the bottom of the seventh when
Kieston Green doubled in Cody Gardner. YSU answered that in the
eighth when Lipari singled, went to third on two wild pitches and
scored on DiNello's ground out.
Russ Harless
pitched the final two innings for YSU and allowed one hit while
striking out one. Wright State starter Casey Henn was charged with
two earned runs on seven hits while striking out eight batters in
five innings.
The Penguins and Raiders will play game two of their series on
Friday at 6:30 p.m.
