Softball Drops Doubleheader at Cleveland State

Cleveland, Ohio -- Sophomore Hana Somogyi scattered just six hits and allowed just one earned run but the two errors proved costly as the Youngstown State softball team dropped a 3-1 decision to Cleveland State in game one of a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. The Guins lost the second game, 11-0.
The Guins fall to 22-21 overall and 5-13 in the Horizon League while Cleveland State improves to 25-17 overall and 10-6 in the league.
The Vikings scored their first two runs of the first game after two Penguins throwing errors -one in the bottom of the third and one in the bottom of the fourth.
Junior Haley Thomas cut the lead in half, 2-1, with her seventh home run of the season in the top of the sixth inning.
CSU's Dara Toman answered and belted her eighth home run of the season for the Vikings' lone earned run off of Somogyi, who struck out three.
In the night cap, the Guins mustered just two hits - one by Thomas and sophomore Sarah Gabel - in the 11-0 loss.
The Vikings scored five runs in the bottom of the first and four in the bottom of the fourth innings.
The Guins close out the regular season with a three-game series against Green Bay, May 7-8, at McCune Park.
