Akron -- The Youngstown State men's and women's track and field teams opened the outdoor portion of their schedule on Friday and Saturday at the Northeast Ohio Quad Meet. The women's team picked up victories over Akron (101-80), Kent State (103-67) and Ashland (104-73) while the men's team defeated Kent State (89-60) at UA's Lee R. Jackson Track and Field Complex.
On the men's side, Darius Reeves won the triple jump, Adam Kagarise won the 400, Tarelle Irwin won the 100-meter dash and Michael Davis won the 200 meters. For the women, Laura Kosiorek won the triple jump, Kendall Homan took first in the 100m hurdles, Nicole Pachol won the 300m hurdles, Ciara Jarrett placed first in the 200m dash and the Penguins won both the 4x100 and 4x400 relays at the meet.
Men's Recap
YSU won both sprinting events on the men's side.
Irwin finished first in the 100 with a time of 10.80 seconds winning by .04. In the 200, Davis won by posting a time of 21.95 seconds. In the 400, Kagarise won with a time of 49.25 seconds.
Reeves won the triple jump with a leap of 14 meters.
Martin Solomon was second in the 110m hurdlers with a time of 14.92 seconds and came in second in the 300m hurdles at 38.47 seconds. Clay Febus was third in the 110 hurdles clocking a time of 15.06 seconds.
Women's Recap
Jarrett, a freshman, headlined a strong performance in the 200-meter dash with a first-place time of 25.49 seconds. Teammate Symona Gregory was third running a time of 26.04 seconds.
Sophomore Nicole Pachol won the 300m hurdles with a time of 43.59 seconds.
In the 100, Jarrett was second with a time of 12.24 seconds while Gregory was third clocking in at 12.38 seconds.
Freshman Laura Kosiorek won the triple jump with a leap of 11.09 meters, while fellow frosh Katrina Rettburg was second in the high jump with leap of 1.65 meters.
Freshman Kendall Homan won the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.86 seconds.
Sophomore Kaitlyn Griffith was second in the hammer throw on Friday with a toss of 52.07 meters and then came back on Saturday to finish third in the shot put.
Freshman Jessica Parham was second in the javelin with a toss of 35.87 meters,
Senior Alisha Anthony placed second in the long jump with a leap of 5.61 meters.
In the 4x100 relay, the group of Gregory, Anthony, Jarrett and Kenya Garner won with a time of 48.06 seconds. In the 4x400 relay, Pachol, Alteeka Vanwright, Taylor Entzi and Jarrett placed first at 3:58.59.
The Penguins return to action next weekend when they travel south to participate in the Duke Invitational.
