Softball Win Streak Snapped in Split at Savannah State

The Youngstown State softball team extended its winning streak to seven games but it was halted after it dropped the nightcap of a doubleheader against Savannah State on Friday afternoon, The Guins won the opener, 13-2, but dropped the second game, 6-5.
The Guins improve to 8-4 overall and the seven-game winning streak ranks tied for the fifth-longest win streak in school history.
In the opener, the Guins banged out 15 hits, including six doubles and home run, and scored in every inning.
The Guins scored one in the first,third and fourth innings, but broke the game open with a five-run second inning and a five-run fifth.
Junior Jordan Ingalls led the Guins going 3-for-4 with two doubles, a home run and five runs batted in.
Senior Kristina Rendle, sophomore Sarah Gabel and freshman Samantha Snodgrass each posted two hits. Snodgrass belted two doubles and drove in two runs while Rendle scored three times and had two runs batted in and Gabel also scored twice.
Freshman Casey Crozier notched her fifth win of the season tossing a complete game three-hitter with two strikeouts.
In the nightcap, the Guins trailed 5-2 with two on and two outs when on a full count junior Haley Thomas belted a three-run game-tying home run to knot the game at 5-5.
However, Savannah State scored the game-winning run on a two-out single up the middle off of Crozier.
Thomas led the Guins going 3-for-4 and scored twice while Ingalls and junior Kristen Philen each collected two hits.
The Guins face South Dakota and Manhattan, Sunday, March 13, on day one of the Rebel Games in Kississmee, Fla.
