Box Score Nashville, Tenn. -- Anthony Porter drove in his fourth run in
the top of the ninth, and Greg Dissinger hit a grand slam in the
eight to lift the Youngstown State baseball team to a
come-from-behind 9-8 victory at Lipscomb on Tuesday.
Porter hit a three-run homer in the first inning to give the
Penguins an early lead, but YSU had to rally from an 8-4 deficit in
the final two innings. It was Dissinger's first career home
run.
"This group has a lot of fight in it," YSU head coach Rich
Pasquale said. "We had some clutch hits tonight, and I'm proud of
the way we've continued to battle all season long."
Eric Marzec earned his first win, holding the Bisons scoreless
in two innings of relief. Senior Alex Oles allowed just one earned
run in his five innings, but he was victimized by three unearned
runs and left with the Penguins down 4-3. It was Oles' first career
start, and he allowed five hits and two walks while striking out
two.
YSU had three straight one-out hits while down in the count
against Lipscomb starter Dannie Strable in the first inning. Armani Johnson singled to start the run, and Jacke Healey followed with a
single to left. Porter then ripped a three-run homer to right for
his second round-tripper of the year to put the Penguins up
3-0.
Lipscomb got a run across in the bottom half when Tyler Wilson
singled and scored on a wild pitch, and the Bisons took the lead
with three unearned runs in the fourth to take a 4-3 lead.
The Penguins tied the score in the seventh when pinch-runner
Neil Schroth scored on a wild pitch, but reliever Mike Derek came
on to induce an inning-ending double play with runners on the
corners to keep the score tied. The Bisons then went ahead 8-4 in
the bottom half of the inning with four hits.
Johnson got things started in the eighth again with a leadoff
walk, Porter was hit by a pitch, and Marzec walked to set the table
for Dissinger's grand slam.
In the ninth, Jacke Healey drew a two-out walk, stole second and
scored when Porter hit an opposite-field single to left. After
striking out the leadoff hitter in the ninth, Marzec walked three
straight hitters to load the bases, but he came back to end the
game with back-to-back strikeouts.
The Penguins and Bisons will wrap up their two-game series on
Wednesday at 5 p.m.
