tied a career-high with 17 points and junior Heather Karner added
16 points but Oakland shot an impressive 54 percent from the field
en route to an 81-57 victory over the Youngstown State women's
basketball team on Tuesday evening at the Athletics Center
O'rena.
The Penguins fall to 6-15 overall while Oakland won its eighth
straight game and improves to 12-10.
Trailing by as many as 13, 32-19, late in the first half, the
Penguins used a 13-4 run over three-and-a-half minute span to slice
the Oakland edge to just three, 36-33, after a Monique Godfrey
3-pointer at the 1:47 mark.
Oakland, though, scored the last four points of the half to take
a seven-point lead, 40-33, into the lockerroom.
Oakland , which out-rebounded the Penguins, 47-18, shot 62.1
percent from the field in the second half and began the stanza with
a 15-6 run to jump out to a 16 point lead, 55-39, with 13:03
left.
The Penguins visit Detroit, Thursday, Feb. 8, at 7 p.m. at
Calihan Hall.
