Youngstown, Ohio — Gemma Walker has signed to join Youngstown State's women's basketball program starting in 2026-27, becoming the Penguins' third addition through the transfer portal this offseason. YSU head coach Melissa Jackson announced Walker's signing on Monday.
Walker is a 5-foot-10 guard from Venetia, Pa., who played her first two collegiate seasons at Saint Francis (Pa.). She joins transfers Mia Kalich and Jada Leonard and incoming freshmen Evelyn McKnight and Kaitlyn Turinsky as newcomers on YSU's roster of 12 for next season.
"We are excited to have Gemma join our YSU family! We love her size, length and versatility at the guard spot," Jackson said. "Gemma runs the floor hard in transition and will fit well with our pace of play. She has good college experience but also comes from a great high school program at Peters Township. I know she is eager to be a part of our championship culture at YSU."
Walker averaged 7.6 points and led the Red Flash with 75 made free throws during her sophomore campaign in 2025-26. She played in 25 games, making 16 starts, and added 2.7 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game. Walker also appeared in 13 games as a freshman.
Walker was a four-year letter winner and a two-time first-team all-section honoree at Peters Township High School, located approximately 20 miles southwest of Pittsburgh. She was named to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette 6A Coaches All-Second Team as a senior, and she earned the Co-Player of the Year honors by the Observer-Reporter and The Almanac in Washington County. As a junior, Walker led the Big 56 Conference in scoring with 20.1 points per game and was named the 6A People's Choice Player of the Year.
