Raymond Wise had an impressive career as a student athlete at Youngstown College playing basketball, football and golf within his four years at the school.

Wise played for the Penguins men's basketball team from 1946-1950 to earn seven letters.

He began his Youngstown basketball career the year following his duty in World War II from 1944 through 1946. While in the Navy, he was a signalman third class.

At Youngstown, he finished his basketball career as on of the top six scorers in school history with 766 total points.

As a freshman, YSU finished 13-10 as Wise contributed 173 points. His sophomore year, the Penguins finished 10-14 as Wise scored 171. In his junior season, YSU was 9-14 as he scored 200 points. In his final year 1949-50, YSU was 3-20 but he had a team-best 222 points.

He set a then-school record by scoring 19 points in one half against John Carroll at the old Cleveland Arena.

While at Youngstown, the Penguins advanced to the first round of the NAIA Tournament in 1947, where they lost to Arizona State.

While a member of the first Youngstown football team following the war, the team had a 14-5 record. He played running back for the Penguins.

He earned a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1950 majoring in Physical Education and minoring in History and Social Studies. He also did some postgraduate work at Westminster.

Following his stellar Youngstown College career, Wise was a teacher and coach at Fowler High School from 1951 through 1955. He taught and coached at West Junior High from 1955 through 1961. He spent 20 more years (1961-1981) of his teaching and coaching career at Volney Rogers Junior High.

He has continued his golf career where he has found success winning District Amateur Senior Championships in 1978, 1979 and 1989.

In 1998, he was inducted in the Curbstone Coaches Hall of fame as a basketball player.

Before his days at YC, he played basketball and football at Salem High School.

Now retired, Wise resides in Boardman, Ohio, with his wife Mary Lou. They have three children Lynn Wise Flaviano, Nancy Wise Lewis and Stuart Wise. They have six grandchildren.
