Leslie Majewski played in more games in YSU women’s basketball history than any player and was a solid all-around player for the program helping lead the Guins to four consecutive 20-win seasons from 1996-97 through 1999-2000.

She finished her career with exactly 1,000 career points making 348-of-831 field-goal attempts (41.9 percent). Majewski entered the Guins’ NCAA Tournament contest at Penn State her senior season in 2000 just 23 points shy of 1,000 and scored exactly that against the Nittany Lions.

She ended her career ranked second all-time in school history with 166 3-pointers made. During her career she sank 166-of-430 attempts from behind the arc hitting at a 38.6 percent clip. From the free-throw line she made an impressive 138-of-171 attempts (80.7 percent).

In a school-record 120 games played, she started 60 times, had 267 assists, 219 rebounds, 151 steals and 10 blocked shots. She averaged 8.3 points per game from 1996-2000.

As a freshman, Majewski scored 107 points, had 41 assists, 37 rebounds and 21 steals playing in all 29 contests. For the 23-6 Guins, she made 36 field goals, including 19 from behind the 3-point arc.

During her sophomore season in 1997-98, the Guins posted a 28-3 campaign, going 15-1 in the Mid-Con. Majewski scored 153 points, dished out 40 assists, had 30 steals and grabbed 28 rebounds. For the year she made 50 field goals, including 26 treys. Shooting 44.2 percent, she made 42.6 percent of her 3-point field goals. Majewski had a season-high 16-point performance against Western Illinois.

As a junior in 1998-99, she was a full-time starter for the first time and was named first-team all-conference. She started all 29 games for the 20-9 Penguins scoring 367 points, an average of 12.7 points per game. She finished with 100 assists, 74 rebounds and 63 steals. She shot 41.4 percent (130-of-314), 33.6 percent from behind the 3-point line (51-of-152) and 84.2 percent from the free-throw line (48-of-57).

She finished the year scoring double figures in points on 23 occasions while dishing out a career-high nine assists versus Kent State. In the Mid-Con Tournament she was named to the all-tournament squad averaging 15.3 points in three games.

Entering her senior season, Majewski needed 373 points to reach the 1,000-point mark. During a campaign in which she scored exactly 373 points, she averaged 12 points a game in 31 contests.

For the year, she had 87 assists, 80 rebounds and 37 steals while shooting 42 percent (132-of-317), 41.4 percent from 3-point range (70-of-159) and 78 percent from the free-throw line (39-of-50).

A second-team all-conference pick, she scored a career-best 36 points against Kent State on Dec. 11, 1999. Against KSU she was 10-of-15 from the field, making seven 3-pointers and nine free throws. During the campaign she scored in double figures 18 times.

Against the Nittany Lions in the NCAA Tournament she made seven 3-pointers and became the 15th player in school history to reach the 1,000-point plateau.

Majewski graduated with a degree in Elementary Education from YSU and earned her master’s in Education from the University of Troy. While earning her master’s she was a graduate assistant basketball coach with the women’s basketball program.

She resides in Summerdale, Ala., where she is a teacher in the Baldwin County school system while serving as a coach and basketball referee for the Alabama High School Athletic Association.
