Jarrett Earns 100th Collegiate Victory as Guins Sweep Canisius

Head Coach Riley Jarrett earned her 100th collegiate win of her coaching career as the Youngstown State volleyball team swept Canisius on Saturday afternoon at Zidian Family Arena to close out the YSU Invitational presented by Mercy Health.
The Penguins won with set scores of 25-13, 25-18 and 25-20 and are now 2-1 on the young campaign.
Kylie Surratt recorded a game-high 11 kills while adding 10 digs for her first double-double of the season. Abbie Householder made her season debut against the Griffins and was just shy of a double-double with nine kills and nine digs.
For the match, YSU hit .271 and continued its strong service play with nine aces.
Natalie Carr made her collegiate debut and recorded her first collegiate kill in the first set. Fellow freshman Korina Barber notched two kills.
The Penguins opened set one on a 6-0 scoring run that featured two aces from Surratt. Ava Stratton recorded her first kill of the contest and followed it up by combining with Izzy Henry for a block that forced a Canisius timeout during the six-point run.
A sliding dig from Householder made it possible for Brie Habeeb to assist Surratt on the return to give the Penguins their 15th point and send them into a timeout with momentum.
Out of the timeout, Kameron Blizniak continued to grow the Penguins' lead with an ace to make it 16-5. Householder recorded back-to-back kills to make it 20-9 and 21-10, giving the Penguins a double-digit lead for the remainder of the set.
Set two saw five ties, with the Golden Griffins starting the scoring. Trailing 13-9, the Penguins put together a six-point scoring run, with an Izzy Henry ace tying the set at 13 and forcing a Canisius timeout. After the break, kills by Stratton and Householder helped the Guins take a 15-13 lead and maintain their advantage throughout the remainder of the set. A service error by the Golden Griffins set up set point, and Householder capped off the 25-18 victory with a kill assisted by Blizniak.
Canisius was able to put together its longest scoring spree of the day with five points during the third set to take an early 8-7 lead. The Penguins battled back, going on an 8-2 run, with a Canisius attacking error allowing them to tie the set at 15.
The set saw two more ties, and the Penguins kept on the offensive, forcing four attacking errors from the Griffins.
Facing match point, the Griffins took a timeout, and out of the break, a Habeeb serve began a tightly contested rally. Henry's kill secured the sweep and the Penguins' second win of the season.
The Penguins take their first road trip of the season to Indianapolis, Ind., to compete in the Hampton Inn Invitational on Sept. 3, with the first match against Butler. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
