Dianne Rappach is the most prolific 3-point shooter in YSU women's basketball history and is one of the best all-around players ever to wear a Penguins uniform.
Rappach had a stellar career as a guard for Youngstown State from 1988-1989 through 1991-92. In her career, she made school record 198 3-pointers on a school best 525 attempts. She scored 1,198 points ranking as the 11th –best total in school history. She ranks third in career assists with 503 and third in steals with 275 and grabbed 333 rebounds. One of the most durable players in school history she played in all 111 games of her career and started 103 contests. She played 3,239 minutes in her career.
An excellent shooter, she made 37.7 percent of her 3-point attempts and had a 77.8 free-throw percentage (126 of 152) ranking her seventh in school history. She made 430 field goals, attempting 1,090.
For her YSU career, she averaged over 10.8 points, 4.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game.
In her career, the program had a 74-37 record in her four seasons, including posting one of the top winning percentages (.857) in school history with a 24-4 mark in 1990-91.
As a senior in 1991-92, she played in 28 games and started 27 contests as a team captain. She made 86 field goals, including 44 3-pointers on 133 attempts. McFadenn contributed 103 assists, 88 rebounds and 46 steals while scoring 246 points in a 19-win season. For the year, she was 30-of-42 from the free throw line.
In 1990-91, she played and started in all 28 games. She made 126-of-287 field goals (43.9 percent) and was 35-of-41 from the free throw line. McFadden contributed 154 assists, 94 rebounds, 87 steals and scored 350 points, averaging 12.5 points per game. During the year, she made 63 3-pointers, a school record.
As a sophomore in 1989-90, she played in 27 games making 26 starts. For the campaign, she made 126 field goals, including 54 3-pointers. From the free throw line she was 35-of-43. She contributed 140 assists, 83 steals, 78 rebounds and scored 341 points averaging 12.6 points per game.
In her first year, Rappach made an immediate impact. In 1988-89, she played in 28 games making 22 starts. She had 106 assists, 73 rebounds 59 steals and scored 261 points. From the field, she made 92 field goals, including 37 3-pointers and was 26-of-36 from the free throw line.
A native of Vienna, Ohio, Rappach earned her degree in elementary education from YSU. After five years, she returned to the program in 1997-98 as an assistant coach. She spent five seasons on Coach Ed DiGregorio's staff and finished her coaching career last season. With McFadden as a part of the staff, YSU made two appearances in the NCAA Tournament and won two conference titles.
Before joining the YSU staff, she was an assistant girls basketball coach at Poland Seminary High School and Western Reserve High School.
Dianne is currently a pre-kindergarten teacher at the Poland-Boardman Child Care Center. She has two sons Connor and Colten.
