One of the greatest to ever play football for the Penguins, Davey, as he was known then, played wingback for the legendary Dwight "Dike" Beede from 1954-1957. Kimmel was so versatile, he earned Little All-American Selection in 1956 & 1957.

While at Youngstown Ursuline High School, Kimmel relished many honors while playing on the gridiron for the Irish. In 1952 he was honored as All-City and All-State First Team. He was also "Player of the Year" and gained the scoring title when Ursuline became city champions. As a senior, he left his mark as he earned letters for three consecutive years in football, basketball and track.

Kimmel stayed close to home, attending Youngstown College (as it was known then) in 1954. In 1956, Kimmel set a new team record for an individual season as he rushed for 940 yards. For six weeks, he led the nation in rushing until an injury slowed him down. With this grand year safely tucked away, Kimmel earned Associated Press "Little All-American" selection and Williamson Midbracket All-American Selection.

In 1957, his senior year, Kimmel once again produced another solid year. Because of his fine season, Kimmel again earned Associated Press "Little All-American" honors as he captained the Penguins. He also was voted "Offensive Player of the Year" and was an alternate in the North/South football classic.

In 1959, he earned the Henry Roehmeil Achievement Award for combined scholarship and athletics. A year later, Kimmel signed a contract with the Buffalo Bills. Besides earning his BS in Education at Youngstown, Kimmel also received his MA in 1973 in Education at Westminster College. Kimmel is currently the director of personnel for a chain of department stores in Florida. He presently resides in Jacksonville, Fla.
