A three-year starter at point guard, Colleen Cook is the only player in school history to score 100 points, have 100 steals and dish out more than 100 assists in the same season. Cook did it as a junior and senior.
Cook holds the school all-time steals record with 384 while ranking sixth with 447 assists. She scored 506 points and grabbed 328 rebounds as well. Cook averaged 3.31 steals and 3.85 assists per game in 116 contests, starting 88. She made 170-of-410 field-goal attempts, made 34 3-pointers and from the free-throw line was 132-of-229.
She had nine steals in a game nine times becoming one of just four players in school history to accomplish the feat. She set the class record for steals as a sophomore, junior and senior.
Her senior campaign in 1997-98 was her most impressive. Cook scored 145 points, had a school-record 145 steals, 134 assists and grabbed 82 rebounds in helping YSU to a 28-3 overall mark and the second round NCAA Tournament.
Cook had five steals or more in 13 contests and five assists or more in 14 games. She finished second in the nation in steals averaging 4.7 per contest. She had nine steals twice (at Oral Roberts, at Cleveland State) and had nine assists against Northeastern Illinois. For her efforts she was named a second-team all-conference performer, starting all 32 games.
As a junior, Cook had a career-high 180 points, 141 assists, 105 steals and grabbed 88 rebounds. She started all 28 games for the Guins that season. She scored a career-high 22 points at Marshall and handed out a season-best 10 assists at Northeastern Illinois. Cook finished with five-or-more steals eight times, including nine at Chicago State. She led the league in steals per game (3.6). She had six-or-more assists on 10 occasions, including eight games of seven plus. Excelling off the court as well, Cook was named academic all-conference.
As a sophomore, Cook started 27 games. She scored 138 points, had 123 assists, 111 rebounds and 95 steals. She averaged 3.4 steals and 4.4 assists per game. Also, she finished with a career-high 11 assists against Northeastern Illinois while having nine steals versus Troy State.
As a freshman, Cook scored 43 points, had 56 assists, 39 steals and 47 rebounds. She played in all 28 games, starting once. Cook scored a season-high seven points against Buffalo. She made 12 field goals and 19 free throws for the campaign.
Cook earned her degree in Accounting from YSU.
She works as a Utilization and Continuing Public Education Coordinator for Katz, Sapper & Miller, a public accounting firm. She remains active in athletics, having run two full marathon's and more than 10 half marathons.
A Pittsburgh, Pa., native, Cook came to YSU after leading North Catholic High School to two state championships.
