Angelo Pezzuolo is another key member of the Youngstown football program in the early 1950's who is being inducted into the YSU Athletics Hall of Fame.

Pezzuolo started at end, a modern day wide receiver, and linebacker for the Penguins from 1951 to 1954. During his four years with the program, YC posted a 20-12-1 record, including a 14-3 record during his final two years.

In 1953, Coach Dike Beede's crew finished with a 7-1 mark while in 1954, the Penguins posted a 7-2 ledger.

Pezzuolo also had the chance to play with his brother during his Youngstown experience. His brother, Henry, was a member of the program for three years and the two played together in 1951 and 1954.

As a freshman, Pezzuolo burst on the scene tying for the team lead with 11 receptions for 140 yards and a touchdown. As a sophomore, Pezzuolo caught a touchdown pass against St. Francis (Pa.). During his junior year, he caught the game-winning touchdown against Gustavus Adolphus.

Pezzuolo earned his degree in Education from Youngstown College and later earned a Master's in Administration from Westminster College.

Since leaving YC, he has been involved in education for almost 50 years. For the past 12 years, he has been the Executive Director of Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV. Midwestern Intermediate is a regional educational service agency providing public services to 27 public school districts and 61 non-public schools in Butler, Lawrence, and Mercer Counties in Pennsylvania.

The company employs more than 600 people and has an annual budget of $90 million.

A native of Bessemer, Pa., he graduated from Bessemer High School before heading to YC. At Bessemer, he was a 12-time letter winner earning four letters apiece in football, basketball and baseball.

On the football field, he was a four-year starter at both fullback and linebacker. He scored the second-most touchdowns, trailing only his brother Henry, in Bessemer history. His high school program also had successful seasons winning two tri-county championships and as a senior he earned all-county accolades.

Angelo and his wife Donna reside in New Castle, Pa. They have a daughter Garland, who is the Vice President and general counsel of the Penn America Insurance Group.
