Youngstown, OH - Youngstown State fifth year senior quarterback Beau Brungard and fifth year senior defensive end Michael Wells have been named the Stats Perform FCS Preseason-All American First Team, the organization announced on Monday.
Two additional players were selected Second and Third team as well. Youngstown State fifth year senior offensive lineman Desmeal Leigh has been named the Stats Perform FCS Preseason All-American Second Team. While fifth year senior place kicker Andrew Lastovka is named the Stats Perform FCS Preseason All-American Third Team.
Brungard coming off an incredible 2025 season, after receiving the Walter Payton Award and being named the MVFC Offensive Player of the Year. He is among the Sports Illustrated top 10 returning FCS quarterbacks for this season.
Last fall, All-American Wells had an impressive season playing in all 13 games and starting in 10 as a defensive end. Wells was credited with 50 tackles, 15 TFLs, and had 10.5 sacks with 11 QB hurries. He's one of Youngstown States most important returners for this upcoming season.
Offensive lineman, Leigh is another top performer to return to the 2026 YSU squad. Coming off a stellar 2025 season being named Second-team All-MVFC and third-team All-American selection by SI.com, Leigh started all 13 games at left tackle, played every snap in nine contests being a part of the group that paved the way for QB Beau Brungard and the YSU offense.
Lastovka had an excellent 2025 season as well, he converted 15-of-21 field-goal attempts and was 57-of-58Â on PATs in just 13Â games. In the MVFC he was 10-of-13 on FG attempts and 35-of-36 on PATs, scoring 102 points with 71 of them coming in league play. A game winning FG at Towson named him the National Special Teams Player of the Week following the win.
