Farmville, Va. – The Youngstown State softball team scored five runs in the top of the sixth inning for a 6-4 come-back win over Longwood on Thursday afternoon at Bank of the James Park.
The Penguins improve to 8-9 on the year while the Lancers fall to 8-13 overall.
Junior Selah Moyer went 2-for-3 with a double and three runs batted in and senior Gabbie Evans belted a pinch-hit, two-run home run to lead the Penguins offense.
Sophomore Isabella O'Brien notched her third win of the year with a complete-game performance and three strikeouts.
Youngstown State got on the board early with a run in the top of the second inning. Kennedy Dean led off the frame with a walk, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt and came around to score on Moyer's single up the middle.
Longwood posted two runs in the bottom of the second and added two more in the bottom of the fifth to take a 4-1 lead.
In the top of the sixth, Tai Turner walked, Dean was hit by a pitched and Bree Kohler walked to load the bases.
Ayla Ray's ground out scored Turner and Moyer's two-run double to center plated Dean and Kohler to knot the game at 4-4. Two pitches later, Evans crushed a 0-1 delivery over the left-field fence to sea the win for the Penguins.
Youngstown State faces Le Moyne and Longwood at 12:30 and 5:30 p.m., respectively on Saturday, March 6.
