Farmville, Va. – Freshman Kennedy Kimball struck out a career-high nine batters, but the Youngstown State softball team dropped a 3-2 decision to Penn on Sunday at the Bank of the James Invitational.
With the loss, the Penguins' three-game winning streak was snapped, and they fall to 6-8 overall.
Kimball tossed a complete game and allowed just five hits and two earned runs.
Junior Tai Turner went 2-for-4 while Leila Staszak, Lydia Wilkerson, Emmer Gilkerson, Ayla Ray, Bella Meyer and Bree Kohler each tallied base knocks. Staszak, Gilkerson and Kohler each had doubles, and Kohler drove in a run.
Youngstown State faces Hampton in a doubleheader, Tuesday, March 3. First pitch is set for 12 p.m. in Hampton, Va.
