Farmville, Va. – The Youngstown State softball team slugged out a combined 27 hits and extended its win streak to three game after knocking off Mt. St. Mary's, 11-6, and Hampton, 9-1, on Saturday at the Bank of the James Invitational.
With the victories, the Penguins improve to 6-7 on the season.
In the opener, sophomore Bella Meyer went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a run batted in while Tai Turner was 2-for-3 with a home run and two runs batted in.
Junior Lydia Wilkerson clobbered her first home run of the season, a two-run shot, and also scored twice while Gabbie Evans drove in a pair of runs.
Freshman Paiton Murphy fired four innings of scoreless relief with three strikeouts and allowed just three hits to pick up her first career win.
Against the Pirates, the Penguins' offense exploded for 15 hits led by Emma Gilkerson's 4-for-4 performance. Turner turned in another impressive game going 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBIs.
Senior Kennedy Dean and sophomore Ayla each went 2-for-3 while Dean had a double and two runs batted in.
Freshman pitcher Kennedy Kimball earned her first career victory striking out eight in a four-hit complete game.
