Indianapolis, Ind. – Youngstown State junior goalkeeper Kendall Sears has been named the Under Armour Horizon League Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.
This is Sears' first weekly award and the second consecutive week a Youngstown State player has earned the award. Sara Felder was named the league's offensive player of the week on Sept. 28.
Sears led the Penguins to a 2-0 record last week with a pair of road wins at Oakland and Detroit Mercy. She posted a pair of shutouts and averaged four saves per game.
In her first clean sheet, the Penguins knocked off Oakland, 1-0, while Sears posted three saves. Against Detroit Mercy, Youngstown State won 3-0, and Sears tallied five saves.
The victories marked the Penguins' first road wins at both Oakland and Detroit Mercy in program history.
Sears also became just the third player in school history to record three consecutive shutouts in the same season.
Youngstown State hosts Wright State on Senior Night on Saturday, Oct. 10. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Farmers National Bank Field.
