Last Time Out
Senior Cris Carroll led five players scoring in double figures with his first double-double of the season, but Youngstown State fell to Cleveland State, 80-78, on Jan. 17 at the Wolstein Center. Carroll scored 21 points with 11 rebounds to lead the Penguins, who fall to 9-11 overall and 2-7 in the Horizon League. Senior Bryson Dawkins poured in 14 points while senior Jason Nelson and junior Rich Rolf posted 11 points each and Vlad Salaridze added 10 points.

Scouting Green Bay
Green Bay enters the game with an 11-9 overall record and a 6-3 mark in Horizon League play. The Phoenix is coming off an 88-63 home loss to Oakland on Jan. 18. Leading the Phoenix is Marcus Hall with 13.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. Green Bay, who is 3-6 on road, has won three straight Horizon League road contests. Green Bay is averaging 74.1 points per game and allowing 75.3 points per contest.
Series vs. Green Bay
This is the 57th meeting between Youngstown State and Green Bay in a series dating back to 1993. The Phoenix own a 36-20 advantage in the all-time series, but the Penguins have won the last three contests. Last season, Youngstown State swept the Phoenix, 73-69, on Jan. 19 in Green Bay, and 81-77 on Feb. 25 in Youngstown. The Penguins have defeated the Phoenix 14 times at Zidian Family Arena at Beeghly Center. Youngstown State has also won six of the last seven games against the Phoenix played at Zidian Family Arena.
Last Time Against the Phoenix
Gabe Dynes and Nico Galette turned in dominant second-half performances to lead Youngstown State to an 81-77 Senior Day win over Green Bay on Feb. 25, 2025, at Zidian Family Arena at Beeghly Center. Dynes recorded his third double-double of the season with 19 points and 12 rebounds to go along with three blocks while Galette tied a season high with 21 points and nine rebounds. Jason Nelson came off the bench to score 13 points and dished out four assists. The Penguins and Phoenix battled through seven lead changes and four ties through the first 13 minutes of the second before the Phoenix built a six-point lead, 64-58, on a Mac Wrecke layup with 7:35 left in the contest. The Penguins scored nine straight on a layup by Galette, a three-point play by Dynes, another layup by Galette and layup by Nelson gave Youngstown State a 67-64 advantage at the 4:57 mark. Galette's 3-pointer just under four minutes remaining broke a 69-69 deadlock, and the Penguins would never trail again.
200 3s Streak Extended
With eight 3-pointers made against Cleveland State, Youngstown State has made at least 200 3-pointers in 15 straight full seasons. Youngstown State has made 207 this year and needs 97 more to break the school mark of 303 set in 2018-19. Last year, he Penguins made 299 3-pointers. The streak dates back to the 2010-11 season, and does not include the COVID-19 shortened 2020-21 campaign. The 299 made 3s rank second on the YSU single-season list.Â
Zorgvol Leads League
Senior Imanuel Zorgvol has been a tremendous rim protector this season. Zorgvol leads the Horizon League with 38 total blocks and 1.9 blocks per game. He has recorded at least one block in 17 of 20 games and multiple blocks 13 times. Zorgvol posted four blocks against Wright State (Jan. 15), Grand Canyon (Nov. 7) and USC Upstate (Dec. 20).
Guins Top Scorers are Efficient
Youngstown State's top two scorers are putting points up at quite an efficient pace. Cris Carroll and Bryson Dawkins are all averaging at least 11.6 points per game and shooting 49 percent or better from the field.
