Penguins Geared Up for Six Horizon League Games This Week

The First Pitch
The Youngstown State softball team (10-28, 2-7 Horizon League) has a busy stretch with six Horizon League games in five days when it hosts Robert Morris in the midweek and visits IU-Indy over the weekend.
At-Bat
The Penguins host the Colonials (15-10, 7-2) in a three-game series at the Covelli Sports Complex, April 9-10. First pitch for Wednesday's doubleheader is slated for 3 p.m. while Thursday's single game has a 3 p.m. start. Youngstown State's series against the Jaguars (12-21, 6-6) begins with a twinbill on Saturday, April 12 at 1 p.m. and concludes with a single game on Sunday, April 13 at 12 p.m.
Up Next
Youngstown State returns home to face St. Bonaventure in a midweek doubleheader Tuesday, April 15 at 3 p.m. The Penguins go back on the road to visit Green Bay in a three-game Horizon League series, April 18-19, in Green Bay, Wis.
About Robert Morris
Robert Morris, who enters the week one-half game behind first-place Cleveland State in the Horizon League standings, is led by Courtney Poulich with a .384 batting average, eight home runs and 32 RBIs. Madison DeVault leads the staff with a 6-4 record and a 2.71 earned-run average.
About IU Indy
IU Indy enters the week in fifth place in the league standings with a 6-6 mark. Molly Kable leads the Jaguars with a .388 batting average, four home runs and 27 runs batted in. Alexa Homan leads the pitching staff with a 5-6 record.
Campbell Notches 400th YSU Win, Nearing Career 700
Head Coach Brian Campbell is in his 17th season at Youngstown State and his 25th as a college head coach. Campbell owns a career record of 685-556-2 and a 400-427-1 mark at Youngstown State. The all-time winningest coach in program history, Campbell needs 15 more wins to reach 700 for his career. He became the first coach in program history to win 400 games.
Ray Streakin'
Freshman Ayla Ray has been on a tear as of late. Ray has posted at least one hit each of the last seven games. During that span went 9-for-17 for a .529 batting average with five runs, a home run, and five RBIs. On the year, Ray is batting .336 with 18 runs scored, 19 RBIs, and two home runs.
Wilkerson Among League Leaders
Sophomore Lydia Wilkerson is having one of the best all-around seasons in the Horizon League. She leads the league with 46 hits, fourth with 59 total bases, sixth with a .377 batting average, and eighth with 21 runs batted in.
Ogin Fires Another Gem, Records Strikeout Career High
Freshman Kelsey Ogin fired another gem picking up her second win of the season and the Penguins' first Horizon League victory with a 2-1 defeat on Detroit Mercy on March 22. Ogin struck out a career-high nine batters in the complete-game five hitter against the Titans.
Wilkerson Staying Hot
Wilkerson continues to swing a hot bat at the plate for the Penguins. She leads the team with a .377 batting average, 22 runs scored, three home runs and 21 runs batted in. Wilkerson, who had a 10-game hitting streak, has recorded a hit in 13 of the last 15 games, and she is batting .442 with seven RBIs over that span.
Littler Still Lit
Sophomore Macy Littler continued staying hot from year one to year two. Littler pushed her overall batting average up to .325 and has scored 19 runs. Littler is also batting .333 in Horizon League play.
Behlke Named Pitcher of the Week
Youngstown State sophomore Autumn Behlke has been named the Horizon League Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced on March 3. This is the first weekly award of Behlke's career. Behlke went 2-1 with a 3.06 ERA last week while striking out 11 batters. she fired a complete game four-hitter with seven strikeouts in a win over St. Bonaventure on Feb. 28. She also picked up the win against Southern Indiana on March 2.
Imler Looking to Continue High-Level Play
Fifth-year senior Elyssa Imler was named the 2024 Horizon League Player of the Year, All-Horizon League First-Team, and led the Penguins with a .340 batting average with 36 runs scored, 51 hits, 21 RBIs, 10 doubles and a home run. She stole 14 bases. Imler also hit .444 with 16 runs, 32 hits five doubles, a home run, and 15 RBIs against Horizon League foes.
Wilkerson Posted Solid Frosh Campaign
Sophomore Lydia Wilkerson was named All-Horizon League Second Team and All-Freshman Team last season. She batted .331 with 19 runs, nine doubles, two home runs and 17 runs batted. Wilkerson also slugged .422 with an on-base percentage of .389. She led the team with 55 hits and recorded 14 multi-hit games…Wilkerson batted. 377 against Horizon League opponents with four doubles and two homers.
