Ann Arbor, Mich. – The Youngstown State men's tennis team dropped a hard-fought nearly three-plus 4-2 contest to Belmont in the semifinals of the Horizon League Championship on Saturday afternoon at Michigan's Varsity Tennis Center.
The Penguins end the season with a 14-10 overall mark while Belmont advances to play Cleveland State in tomorrow afternoon's final.
YSU battled against the No. 1 team from the South Division.
After losing the doubles point, the Bruins won in straight sets at No. 2 and No. 4 singles. But the other four matches were tightly contested.
At No. 3, Ethan Dasset rallied for a 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 win to give YSU its first point of the contest. At No. 6, Viktor Van Craenenvbroeck picked up a 7-6, 6-4 win.
At No. 1, Onder Balci won his first set 6-3 before dropping his second 4-6. He was tied 3-3 in the third set.
The Bruins clinched the match at No. 4 as Matteo Ceradelli battled in a 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 decision.
