Sophomore Jake Ryan fired a career-low, three-under-par 68 in the final round to highlight the Youngstown State men's golf team's performance at the Wright State Invitational, which concluded on Monday at Heatherwoode Golf Club in Springboro, Ohio.
The Penguins placed ninth in the team standings at four over par with a three-round total of 856. YSU recorded a team score of 284 in each of the first two rounds on Sunday before closing the event with a 288 in the third and final session on Monday. Youngstown State's season-low 856 is tied for fifth-lowest 54-hole performance in program history.
Ryan finished tied for 16th with a career-best three-round score of 212 (71-73-68) to come in as YSU's top individual. The sophomore's career-low, three-under-par 68 in the final round on Monday featured 11 pars and five birdies as he shot a two-under-par 34 on the front nine.
Michael Porter finished tied for 21st by matching his career-best three-round total of 213 (71-70-72). The redshirt sophomore's one-under-par 70 in the second round included 13 pars and three birdies as he turned in a one-under-par 35 on the front nine.
Nolan Shilling finished tied for 35th with a three-round 216 (72-71-73). The redshirt freshman's even-par 71 in the second session featured 12 pars and three birdies. Jordan Kish finished tied for 44th with a three-round score of 218 (71-72-75). The freshman's even-par 71 in the opening round included 14 pars and a pair of birdies.
Ryan Sam concluded the tournament with a three-round total of 220 (71-71-78). The junior's even-par 71 in the second round on Sunday featured 10 pars and four birdies. Jacob Sylak wrapped up play with a three-round 222 (74-73-75). The senior's second-round 73 included 11 pars, two birdies and an eagle on the par-five No. 9.
Playing as individuals, Conner Stevens finished with a three-round score of 225 (78-74-73) while Josh Weiner carded a 228 (75-77-76).
Wright State claimed its home tournament title at 25 under par as a team with a three-round total of 827. Indian Hills finished as the runner-up with an 839, Ohio Dominican placed third with an 844, Finaly was fourth with an 850 and Cleveland State rounded out the top five with an 851.
Wright State's Timmy Hollenbeck earned medalist honors by four shots at 12 under par with a three-round score of 201 (66-67-68).
Youngstown State will now turn its attention to the 2025 Horizon League Golf Championships, which will take place April 19-21 at Mission Inn Resort in Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla.
