The Youngstown State men's golf team will continue the spring portion of its 2024-25 season on Sunday when it begins play in the two-day Wright State Invitational at Heatherwoode Golf Club in Springboro, Ohio.
The Penguins are coming off a sixth-place finish in The Jewell hosted by Northern Kentucky on April 7-8. Junior Ryan Sam finished tied for 11th individually with a two-round score of 143 (74-69) to come in as YSU's top individual finisher. The Canfield, Ohio, native fired a two-under-par 69 in the second and final session on Tuesday to match his lowest round of the season.
The tournament field at the Wright State Invitational will feature 12 other schools including Cleveland State, Detroit Mercy, Findlay, Green Bay, Indian Hills, Loyola Chicago, Miami Ohio, Ohio Dominican, Southern Indiana, Valparaiso, Wright State and Xavier.
The teams are scheduled to play 36 holes on Sunday and 18 holes on Monday in the two-day, 54-hole event. Play is slated to begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. each day. Live scoring will be available via Scoreboard Live through links posted on YSUsports.com. Each team will have a six-player lineup with the low four scores counted each round.
Head Coach Tony Joy has announced that YSU's six-player lineup will feature Sam, Nolan Shilling, Jacob Sylak, Jordan Kish, Jake Ryan and Michael Porter. In addition, Conner Stevens and Josh Weiner will be competing as individuals for the Penguins.
Kish and Sam have participated in all 10 events YSU has played this season while Ryan and Shilling have each competed in nine tournaments. Porter and Sylak have each participated in eight events this season while Weiner has competed in two tournaments. Stevens will be competing for the first time in 2024-25 on Sunday.
