Freshman Jordan Kish finished third individually to lead the Youngstown State men's golf team to a fourth-place team finish at the Jackrabbit Invitational, which concluded on Saturday from Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev.
The Penguins finished the event with a three-round team total of 899 to finish tied-for-fourth out 10 teams. YSU recorded team rounds of 302 and 294 in the first two rounds on Friday before closing the tournament with a 303 in the third and final round on Saturday.
Kish earned a career-best third-place finish with a three-round score of 215 (70-74-71). The freshman's career-low, two-under-par 70 in the opening round on Friday featured 10 pars and five birdies as he fired a one-under-par 35 on both on the front and back nine. Kish's second-round 74 included 11 pars, three birdies and an eagle on the par-five No. 13. The Massillon, Ohio, native also recorded 10 pars and five birdies during the final round on Saturday.
Nolan Shilling finished tied for 18th with a three-round total of 228 (79-73-76). The redshirt freshman's one-over-par 73 in the second session featured eight pars and five birdies as he carded a two-under-par 34 on the front nine.
Jacob Sylak finished tied for 21st with a three-round 229 (77-76-76). The senior's opening round on Friday featured a pair of birdies and an eagle on the par-five No. 2. Sylak turned in four birdies during the second round and five birdies in third round.
Ryan Sam finished tied for 33rd with a three-round score of 233 (79-74-80). The junior's two-over-par 74 in the second session included nine pars and a pair of birdies. Jake Ryan finished tied for 35th with a three-round total of 234 (76-73-85). The sophomore's one-over-par 73 in the second round featured 11 pars and three birdies as he fired a one-under-par 35 on the back nine.
Playing as an individual, Michael Porter finished with a three-round 235 (78-75-82). Rocco Turner concluded the event with a 243 (83-78-82) while Ayden Richmond posted a 254 (88-82-84). Turner recorded an eagle on the par-five No. 16 during the opening round. Turner and Richmond were also competing as individuals for the Penguins.
South Dakota State won its home tournament by seven shots with a three-round team total of 878. North Dakota finished as the runner-up with an 885 while Northern Iowa placed third with an 891. YSU and USC Upstate each finished with an 899 to tie for fourth. South Dakota State's Bryson Mercier earned medalist honors with six under par with a three-round score of 210 (71-65-74).
Youngstown State will continue the spring portion of its 2024-25 season on March 31-April 1 with the Don Benbow Butler Spring Invitational at Highland Golf & Country Club in Indianapolis.
