Columbia, S.C. – The Youngstown State softball scored early, but the Penguins could not hang on and dropped a 10-2 decision to South Carolina on Wednesday night.
Junior Bree Kohler went 1-for-2 and drove in a run while Elyssa Imler also had an RBI. Macy Littler, Lydia Wilkerson, Ayla Ray, and Taylor Truran all had hits for the Penguins.
The Penguins started off hot collected four straight hits to lead off the game. Littler, Wilkerson, and Ray all singled to load the bases, and Kohler's single down the right-field line plated Littler with the Penguins' first run.
Elyssa Imler's sacrifice fly to left field scored Wilkerson to put Youngstown State ahead after one-half inning.
South Carolina answered quickly with three runs in the bottom of the first and added two more in the second to take 5-2 lead after two frames.
The Gamecocks, who did not allow a hit after the first inning, plated two runs in the third and three in the bottom of the fourth.
Youngstown State faces Gardner-Webb and Furman in the Furman Round Robin, March 7-8, in Greenville, S.C.
