Youngstown, Ohio – The Youngstown State softball team opened the 2025 Horizon League slate with a 9-0 setback to Cleveland State on Thursday at the YSU Softball Field.
The Penguins fall to 4-19 overall and 0-1 in the league while the Vikings improve to 6-12 overall and 1-0 in league action.
Sophomore Macy Littler collected the Penguins' lone hit off of CSU starter Melissa Holzopfel, who struck out five and walked just one.
The Vikings hit three home runs in the game and scored two runs in the second, two in the third, three in the four and two more in the seventh inning.
Freshman pitcher Kelsey Ogin fanned four batters in four innings while classmate Autumn Boyd struck out three in three innings pitched.
Youngstown State and Cleveland State close out the series with a doubleheader, Friday, March 14. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. at the YSU Softball Field.
