Penguins Host Panthers in Prime Time RED OUT on ESPNU

Setting the Scene
The Youngstown State men's basketball team goes for its fifth straight win when it hosts Horizon League foe Milwaukee, Friday, Feb. 21. Tipoff is set for 9 p.m. at Zidian Family Arena at Beeghly Center, and the game will be televised on ESPNU and aired on 570 WKBN.

Last Time Out
Nico Galette led five players scoring in double figures with 19 points to lead the Youngstown State men's basketball team to a hard-fought 68-60 victory over Cleveland State on Sunday at the Wolstein Center. Galette scored a game-high 19 points with seven rebounds while Jason Nelson and Ty Harper each posted 11 points. EJ Farmer and Juwan Maxey both added 10 points.

  • Improve YSU's record to 19-10 overall and 13-5 in the Horizon League.
  • Mark the first time since 1968-69 through 1971-72 that YSU has won at least 19 games in four straight seasons.

Scouting Milwaukee
Milwaukee enters the game with an overall record of 18-9 and an 11-5 mark in Horizon League play. The Panthers are coming off 92-70 win over Northern Kentucky on Feb. 16. Themus Fulks leads the Panthers with 14.6 points per game while Jamichael Stillwell is averaging 13.5 points and 10.8 rebounds per contest. The Panthers are averaging 79.4 points per game while allowing 72.2 points per contest.

Series vs. Milwaukee
This is the 56th meeting between Youngstown State and Milwaukee in a series dating back to 1972. The Panthers own a 34-21 advantage in the all-time series, but the Penguins have won three of the last four contests. Last season, the Penguins swept the season series with overtime wins in Youngstown (97-85) and Milwaukee (84-80). Youngstown State has also won nine of the last 12 contests against Milwaukee. The Penguins have also won the last four games played in Youngstown.

Last Time Against Milwaukee
Four players scored in double figures, but Youngstown State fell to Milwaukee, 79-64, on Jan 17 at UWM Panther Arena. Jason Nelson and Cris Carroll each scored 14 points to lead the Penguins (11-8, 6-3 Horizon League) while Ty Harper scored 12 points while Juwan Maxey added 11 points.

Galette Named HL Co-Player of the Week
Senior Nico Galette was named the Under Armour Horizon League Men's Basketball Co-Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday. This is Galette's first weekly honor while at Youngstown State, and he is the second Penguins player to receive the award this season. Galette led the Penguins to a 2-0 record last week with wins over the league's top scoring team and a road victory over the league leader. The Penguins knocked off Purdue Fort Wayne, 93-71, and Cleveland State, 68-60, on the road. He averaged 20 points, 8.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 1.5 steals per game and shot 63.3 percent (14-for-22) from the field, 66.7 percent (4-for-6) from 3-point range, and 88.9 percent (8-for-9) from the free-throw line. Galette recorded his seventh double-double of the year with 21 points and 10 rebounds against the Mastodons. He also dished out five assists. Galette went 8-of-11 from the floor with three 3-pointers. His 21 points tied a season high. Against Cleveland State, Galette poured in a game-high 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds with three assists. He connected on 6-of-11 from the field with a 3-pointer and was 6-for-6 from the line.

Since the 2019-20 season, Youngstown State has played we extremely well in the month of February. Over the last season years, the Penguins own a February record of 34-13 for a .723 winning percentage. This season, the Penguins are 4-1 in February.
