The Youngstown State men's tennis team dropped its first match of the season falling to UIC, 4-3, on Sunday at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center.

YSU drops to 6-1 on the campaign while the Flames are now 6-2.

The Guins lost the doubles point but were able to win three singles contests.

YSU won at No. 3 doubles as Viktor Van Craenenbroeck and William Rassat picked up a 6-1 victory. However, UIC won at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.

In singles, Filip Avdeev and Van Craenenbroeck won in straight sets while Onder Balci picked up a three-set win. The Flames won in straight sets at No. 4 and No. 5 singles and won in three sets at No. 2.

Avdeev earned a 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 while Van Craenenbroeck won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 6. Balci battled back for a 3-6, 7-6, 12-10 win at No. 1 singles. At No. 2, Rassat dropped a tough 6-2, 0-6, 6-4 match.

The Penguins return to action on Friday when they play host to Buffalo on Friday at 5 p.m.
