Cleveland, Ohio – Nico Galette led five players scoring in double figures with 19 points to lead the Youngstown State men's basketball team (18-10, 12-5 Horizon League) to a hard-fought 68-60 victory over Cleveland State (18-9, 12-4 Horizon League) on Sunday at the Wolstein Center.
Galette scored a game-high 19 points with seven rebounds while Jason Nelson and Ty Harper each posted 11 points. EJ Farmer and Juwan Maxey both added 10 points.
Dylan Arnett led the Vikings with 16 points while Tevin Smith and Chase Robinson each scored 15 points.
The Penguins erased an early six-point deficit and closed out the first half on a 14-5 run to take a 30-27 lead at the intermission.
Youngstown State built its lead to as many as 13 points, 50-37, midway through the second half and withstood a late Vikings charge.
Cleveland State twice got within two points, 60-58, and 62-60, but Harper made layup, and Galette made four free throws with less than 20 seconds left to seal the victory.
Youngstown State hosts Milwaukee, Friday, Feb. 21. Tipoff is set for 9 p.m. at Zidian Family Arena at Beeghly Center, and the game will be televised on ESPNU.
