Las Vegas, Nevada – The Youngstown State women's tennis team swept singles play to beat Weber State 6-1 on Saturday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
The Penguins have won three straight matches, including their first two in Vegas. YSU concludes its three-match in three-day trip against UNLV tomorrow at 10 a.m. Pacific/1 p.m. Eastern.
After dropping the doubles point, the Guins swept all six singles matches winning three in straight sets, one via retirement and two in three sets.
Winning in two sets were Julia Marko at No. 1, Lili Minich at No. 2 and Ghada Dirninger at No. 3. Yeseniia Ovcharova won her first set before winning by retirement. At No. 4 and No. 6, Lorena Cedeno and Yoana Dudova earned hard-fought three-set wins.
At No. 1, Marko cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 win while Minich picked up a 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 singles. At No. 5, Dirninger won her contest 7-5, 6-1. In three sets, Dudova was victorious by a 6-2, 1-6, 7-6 score and Cedeno rallied for a 5-7, 6-4, 10-5 triumph.
