Penguins Host Lions in 2025-26 Home Opener Monday Night

Setting the Scene
The Youngstown State men's basketball team (1-1) returns home to host Penn State Shenango in the 2025-26 home opener, Monday, Nov. 10. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. at Zidian Family Arena at Beeghly Center. The game will be aired on 570 WKBN and ESPN+.

Youngstown State plays its next four games on the road starting with a matchup against Atlantic-10 member St. Bonaventure, Saturday, Nov. 15 . Tipoff is set for 4 p.m. at the Reilly Center. The game will be aired on 570 WKBN, ESPN+ and the YES Network.

Last Time Out
The Youngstown State men's basketball team picked up its first win of the 2025-26 campaign with an impressive 90-81 win over Mountain West Conference member Grand Canyon on Nov. 7. Imanuel Zorgvol led four players scoring in double figures with a career-high 18 points. Junior Drew King just missed a triple-double with 10 points, 10 rebounds, and eight assists while senior Cris Carroll and Tae Blackshear each added 14 points. As a team, the Penguins made 12 3-pointers.

Scouting PSU Shenango
Penn State Shenango enters the game with an overall record of 1-1. The Lions are led by Izzy Santiago with 16 points per game and Devin Alston who averages 15 points per contest. Kevon Washington and Jordan Dotson are both averaging 13 points per game. The Lions are coming off a 72-70 win over Bryant & Stratton (Rochester) on Nov. 2. Lions Head Coach Mike Wernicki served as an assistant coach at Youngstown State from 2005-17.

Series vs. Penn State Shenango
This is just the second meeting between Youngstown State and Penn State Shenango. Youngstown State defeated the Lions, 112-63, on Jan. 24, 2025, at Zidian Family Arena at Beeghly Center.

It's Good to Be King
Junior guard Drew King, a Phoenix, Ariz., native had quite the homecoming in the Penguins' 90-81 victory over Grand Canyon. Drew came off the bench the second double-double of his career with 10 points and 10 rebounds. He nearly became the third player in YSU history to post a triple-double dishing out eight assists.

IMan Steppin' Up
Senior Imanuel Zorgvol turned in a career-best game against Grand Canyon. The 7-foot center scored a career-high 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the field with his first career 3-pointer and four blocks. 

Blackshear Hits Vareer High
Junior Tae Blackshear posted the first double-digit scoring game of his career against Grand Canyon. Blackshear scored 14 points off the bench and went 7-for-7 from the free-throw line.
